The Defence Research and Development Organisation on Monday launched a three-day technical seminar, with a special focus on the 'Make in India' initiative, as a precursor to the upcoming Aero India air show here.

The seminar invited participating nations to participate in the 'Make in India' initiative in the aviation, space, defence systems, airport infrastructure, defence engineering, renewable energy and thermal power sectors.

"The 'Make in India' economic programme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, opens up opportunities for innovative minds to exploit the globally evolving spirit of 'teaming up' and 'pooling resources'," Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjit Singh said at the seminar.

The minister also mentioned India's achievement in the aeronautical fields, including ISRO's successful Mars Exploration Spacecraft programme, DRDO's successful test-firing of the Agni series of surface-to-surface Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) and the launch of the indigenous sub-sonic long-range cruise missile 'Nirbhay'.

Earlier in the day, Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises GM Siddeshwara had described the success of indigenous systems in aerospace as symbols of 'Indian prowess' in the sector.
