Colombian striker Radamel Falcao has declared that playing for one of the truly great teams like Manchester United had been a lifetime ambition, after the Premier League club fetched out around 20 million pounds to bring him from AS Monaco for just one loan season.
Falcao was desperate to leave French club Monaco and, though United were not his first choice, their offer was the only one on the table.
But the striker said of his new club that it is a dream come true to join a club like United, one of the biggest clubs in the world. He added that he has always dreamt about playing for one of the truly great teams and winning lots of trophies, The Independent reported.
Falcao said that it is a once in a lifetime opportunity and one cannot turn that down. He added that he is a huge fan of English football and watch it whenever he can and now the reality is that he is going to play there.
The 6 million pounds signing-on fee United have agreed to pay for the Colombian takes their outlay on players beyond 150 million this summer. But it is by agreeing to Falcao's wages that they take the biggest financial hit.
Other Premier League clubs were quoted 18 million pounds a year, 3,46,000 pounds-a-week, when Falcao's representatives first began touting him around, midway through last week.
However, United are understood to have agreed to pay 2,65,000 pounds-a-week, making Falcao an even bigger earner than Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie. United have an option to buy the player for 43.4 million pounds at the end of the season, the report added.
