DRI unearths massive smuggling racket of gold, one arrested

The Delhi Zonal Unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested a person named Harnek Singh and seized 44 kg foreign marked gold concealed in metallic case of poultry egg incubator coming from Mundra Port in Gujarat.

It was seized from Delhi's Chander Vihar area of Delhi.

The DRI also conducted searches at residential premises as well as factory of the accused which led to recovery of several incriminating evidences, proof of previous smuggling and huge amount of hawala transaction to Dubai.

The DRI unit has been tracking this person from quite a long time after it was able to nab him.

The accused used to gather one Poultry Egg Incubator that was being imported in every consignment along with few disassembled poultry Egg brooder panel. Each time around 40-50 kg foreign marked gold bars were being concealed in the metallic case which was subsequently retrieved by the said smuggler.

 

Gold bars were being wrapped in a thick silver grey paper smeared in adhesive to prevent metallic sound during movement.

Through this modus operandi, the person has smuggled around 300 Kg of foreign mark gold bars worth of Rs. 90 crore from Dubai in the current year.

The smugglers normally prefer the air route to smuggle gold to India. However, in the seventies and eighties smuggler used to smuggle gold through sea route by bringing gold in country boats.

The truck driver, importer and his associates have been summoned by the DRI officers for interrogation and further investigation.
