Nearly four suspected al-Qaeda members have been killed in a US drone strike in central Yemen.

The attack comes following a US warning of a possible major militant attack in the region.

The US State Department also ordered all non-essential staff and Americans to leave Yemen immediately over terrorism concerns.

According to Dawn News, the latest warning comes after some two dozen US missions across the Middle East and Africa were closed.

The closure comes after reports of intercepted messages from Al-Qaeda's top leader ordering its Yemen franchise to carry out an attack.

The statement said the 'threat level in Yemen is extremely high' because of the potential for terrorist attacks and civil unrest, the report added.
