Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) union on Monday expressed dissent over the compensation declared by state

transport minister Gopal Rai for the death of a bus driver who was mercilessly beaten to death by a biker.

The union also demanded that the culprits should be booked at the earliest.

"DTC management is the worst. They have absolutely no concern for us. Also, the Government has promised only a five lac compensation. Earlier, when a similar incident had happened, the driver's family was compensated with a crore. This time, our fellow mate didn't die but was murdered while on duty. Hence, this compensation is not enough to

pay for his life", said a DTC driver.

The union has called for a strike for an indefinite period until their demands are met.

"Besides, our taxable allowances (TA) are being usurped by the government for the past nine years. No worker gets it. We go on a strike when our demands are not met. This issue is also a part of ourstrike today", said another driver.

Earlier on Sunday, Rai had said that a case has been registered against those responsible for beating a DTC bus driver to death and had also added that the state government would provide Rs five lakh compensation to the victim's family.

The 42-year-old driver was thrashed by a motorcycle rider after his bus grazed the bike from behind in the city's Mundka area.

The biker has been absconding since.
