The Norwegian woman who was raped in Dubai and was arrested and sentenced jail term for having 'sex outside marriage' has been reportedly pardoned and is free to leave the city.
According to BBC, Marte Deborah Dalelv was raped by a co-worker while on a business trip in Dubai and when she reported the incident, she instead was arrested and sentenced 16-month imprisonment in accordance with the Sharia Law.
The dispute surrounding the strict and Islamic tradition ruled laws drew a lot of flak from international bodies and human rights groups primarily focusing on incidents where sex victims are allegedly announced as sex offenders.
Dalelv said that the public prosecutors announced that she was pardoned from the ruler of Dubai and she was preparing to leave Dubai as soon as possible.
Norway's Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide's tweet thanked all those who signed up for help for Marte's release.
Dalelv had announced to make her case public in order to draw attention towards the conservative and strict rules governing Dubai's legal system out of which some violate the human rights.
Meanwhile, Norwegian authorities confirmed that Dalelv's attacker, her co-worker who was also sentenced to 13-month imprisonment has been pardoned as well, the report added.
