The members of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) staged a protest here on Monday demanding ban on liquor in Tamil Nadu.

Holding placards, the protestors raised slogans and demanded a ban on liquor across the state.

Almost all major opposition parties in the state have joined hands for a complete ban on the sale of liquor even as the government led by All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has remained silent on the issue.

Gandhian activist Sasi Perumal, who had been demanding liquor prohibition in Tamil Nadu for over four decades, died on July 31 while protesting against existence of liquor shops in Kanyakumari.
