Christians across India on Sundaythronged churches in large numbers to attend special prayers, held to mark Easter.
In Goa, Easter was celebrated with grandeur as the devotees carried out procession with pomp and show.
"Today he has risen, so today is very special to us and our sins have been forgiven and we are beginning new life with Jesus," said a devotee, Frankie.
Meanwhile, devout Christians in Coimbatore attended special prayers at the Holy Trinity Cathedral.
Bishop Mar Paul Alappat said that the prayers and celebrations are held to mark to resurrection of the Jesus Christ.
"We celebrate the resurrection of the lord, memory of the resurrection of the lord. We start with special rubrics related to this memorial of resurrection and it will be followed by the holy procession along with the statue of the risen lord and also the holy mass and after the holy mass there will be celebrations and there will be distribution of Easter eggs, which is also part of this celebration," said Bishop Alappat.
Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, described as having occurred on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion by Romans.
