The Election Commission has issued directions to concerned state officers to maintain a record of expenditure being made by political parties and their candidates for the next month's assembly polls in Haryana.

The Election Commission of India's Director General (Expenditure), P K Dash, on Wednesday held a video conference from Delhi with Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Walgad and districts' electoral, police and nodal expenditure officers and asked them to be vigilant about expenditure being made by candidates.

He said the maximum limit of expenditure allowed for candidates in state assembly elections is Rs.28 lakh.

Dash, according to an official release in Chandigarh, also directed them to keep a check on purchase and distribution of liquor in an unauthorised manner or any money being given to people to get favours.

He said that directions related to elections should be publicised more with the help of media so as to make people aware.

He directed the officers to keep record of expenditure made by the candidates during elections in "Shadow Registers" so that it could be verified with the registers being used by the candidates for maintaining their record.

The deputy commissioners and police officers of all districts informed the Dash about the necessary arrangements made by them in view of the elections next month.
