Hailing the decision of the Election Commission (EC) refusing TTV Dinakaran's response on V.K. Sasikala's elevation, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Saturday said the organisation's rejection shows that Dinakaran's post does not have any legal backing.

"The fact that the Election Commission of India (EC) has refused to accept the reply submitted by TTV Dinakaran on behalf of the AIADMK party shows that his post does not have any legal backing and he is claiming himself to be the deputy general secretary of the AIADMK," DMK spokesperson A. Saravanan told ANI.

"Whatever he (Dinakaran) claims, whatever they have appointed him to be, that lacks legal backing. This is the message that is sent by the EC. The fact that the EC has refused to acknowledge that even such a post exists shows that whatever they have done so far, including the nomination of Sasikala as general secretary is without any legal backing," he added.

Earlier yesterday, the EC rejected the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's (AIADMK) response on the elevation of V.K. Sasikala as party's general secretary, stating that Dinakaran, who signed the letter, was not an office bearer of the party anymore.

The EC has now asked Sasikala to submit the reply either under her own signature or any authorized signatory whose name is in the party office bearers' list.

Earlier on February 17, the EC had issued a notice to Sasikala on a petition filed by O. Panneerselvam loyalist Maitreyan and others challenging the nomination of J. Jayalalaithaa's loyalist as AIADMK's general secretary.
