The Election Commission(EC) on Saturday seized 10,000 crates of alcohol from two godowns in Punjab's Bathinda city.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sakshi Sawhney reached the spot to investigate the matter.

The Election Commission (EC) in a secret operation raided two godowns and seized 10,000 crates of alcohol from two different focal points.

The seized booze not only belongs to Punjab, but also Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.

"The alcohol has been seized from two different locations. From one store we got 6,000 bottles and rest from other the location. Investigation is going on," Sawhney said.

The motive of the presence of alcohol of large numbers before the high-voltage Punjab assembly elections casts suspicion.

Hitting out at the monster of drugs, alcohol and cash gnawing the poll bound state of Punjab, the Election Commission earlier informed about the two entities especially formed to combat it.

"Flying squad and static surveillance team has been formed since the time Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into place. 451 flying squads and 504 static surveillance teams have been activated in Punjab, which work round the clock," said an Election Commission official.

Punjab goes to polls on February 4 and the counting takes place on March 11.
