The eight-storey apartment complex where Australian Test player Ed Cowan lives had reportedly gone up in flames on Thursday, leading to the evacuation of all the residents of the 57 units in the building.
It is believed that the fire started on the timber decking and pergola on the roof and intensified in the record-breaking heat during the day.
According to News.com.au, Cowan said that although he was not present at his home at the seventh floor of the building during the incident, he rushed back when he heard the news, and expressed his disappointment that the communal BBQ area had gone ablaze.
Cowan further said that his terrace is directly below the area where the fire caught, adding that although he feared that his terrace has been destroyed, he is hoping for a miracle as he gets a good view of Sydney from that place.
The report further said that more than 50 firefighters had struggled to douse the fire, adding that although no one was injured during the incident, one man had to be rescued after he became trapped in a stairwell.
