NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden is viewed by a younger generation as 'some kind of Jason Bourne', Senator John McCain has said.
McCain said that the deep distrust of government has led young Americans to hold up Snowden as a hero.
During a show on 'Fox News Sunday,' he said that the young generation believes he's some kind of Jason Bourne, referring to the lead character in the Bourne movie trilogy, who fought against his own government, particularly the CIA.
According to the Washington Times, McCain said that there's kind of a generational change, and young Americans do not trust this government, adding that without trusting government one cannot do a lot of things.
Snowden's revelations, including details of the National Security Agency's data-collection efforts, have led to a debate on the national security versus privacy question, and how to balance the two, the report added.
