Efforts are still on to rescue the 4-year-old girl who fell into an open dry borewell in Bijapur on Wednesday.
Sachitanand Gawde of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), said "We have discussed the current situation with local administration and PWD engineers and this is the safest method that we are following to rescue the girl."
Gawde stated, "We have found debris at the depth of 29 feet and the girl must be at the 31-32 feet and we have gone down 37 feet parallel in to the borewell, after which we will dig a horizontal tunnel to the girl. The rock is very hard, which is why we are using special machinery to dig here."
"We are assuming that she is still alive and we would be able to get her out, though we have not been able to see her yet, oxygen has been supplied into the borewell," he added.
Another official said that it's been 36 hours that they started the operation and it may take another few hours to reach the girl. He added that doctors have said that the girl's chances of survival are quite less.
