The People's Democratic Party on Wednesday reiterated that efforts are on to establish an understanding with the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) before going ahead with government formation in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Some issues need to be established and common understanding has to be developed as well. Efforts are being made from both sides" said PDP leader Naeem Akhtar.

Meanwhile, the BJP has said that both parties had reached a consensus on a few things and talks were underway on other issues.

"Have attained a consensus on a few things and work is on, on the others," said BJP leader Chaudhary Lal Singh.

Jammu and Kashmir has been without a government ever since a fractured verdict in the Assembly elections last year left no party with a clear majority.

The highest number of seats was won by the PDP, but the party with 28 seats fell well short of the 44 seats required to form the government.
