Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been criticised for showing a 'lack of respect' towards his teammates with his 'egoistical' physical display after scoring his side's fourth goal from the penalty spot in Real's 4-1 win over cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final.
The Portuguese striker, who endured a frustrating and fruitless evening in the Lisbon final before the goal, celebrated his successful extra time spot kick by running to the corner on his own, ripping off his shirt and flexing his muscles.
According to News.com.au, the social media was quick to criticise Ronaldo, with many claiming his gesture against the La Liga champion was egotistical and reminiscent of Italy striker Mario Balotelli's celebration after scoring against Germany at Euro 2012.
Former Manchester United and Real Madrid star and former teammate of Ronaldo, Ruud van Nistelrooy said the world's best player should have shown more respect to his teammates as his 'performance' showed as if his teammates 'did nothing' towards the win.
Agreeing with Van Nistelrooy's criticism, a Spanish newspaper said that Ronaldo had a tame match, was out of form and his celebration for the fourth goal was distasteful.
