Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities is in the process of approving plans to rebuild one of the world's seven wonders, the 137-metre-long Lighthouse of Alexandria, which was built in 280 BC but had collapsed after a series of earthquakes in 1323.

Council member Mostafa Amin said that the plans were submitted after an in-depth analysis of the construction plans, deadline.com reported.

The final approval for the lighthouse, aka the Pharoah's lighthouse that was one of the tallest structures in the world for hundreds of years, would come from the Governor of Alexandria, who will decide whether to clear the plans after a thorough assessment.

Egypt has a poor track record of restoration and preservation and hence the international is skeptical about these ambitious plans.

Alongside the Mausoleum and Halicarnassus and the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Lighthouse was one of the longest surviving Ancient World Wonders.
