A court in Egypt has upheld the death sentence of ousted former President Mohammed Morsi over a mass prison break in 2011.
According to BBC, the sentence was handed over in May but was confirmed after consultation with Egypt's highest religious figure, the Grand Mufti.
The death sentences of five other leading members of the Muslim Brotherhood, including its supreme guide Mohammed Badie, have also been upheld.
The supporters of Morsi have described the death sentence as "farcical".
Morsi escaped from Wadi Natroun prison in January 2011 and was accused of colluding with foreign militants in a plot to free Islamists during mass prison breaks.
Morsi was overthrown in a military coup in July 2013 following mass street protests against his rule.
Since then, the government has banned Muslim Brotherhood and nabbed thousands of Morsi's supporters.
