Eight killed in Uttar Pradesh road accident

A collision between a truck, car and an eight-seater vehicle killed at least eight people and injured several others in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur District on Friday.

"In collision between a truck and a Maruti Alto, 25 people were involved and eight people have died. We are verifying further and the injured people are being treated in this hospital," said Additional District Magistrate Rajesh Pandey.

The truck rammed into an eight-seater vehicle, which lost its balance and smashed into a car on the road.

" My sister has been injured," said Pinky, an injured girl, aand added that her father had tried to avoid being hit by the eight-seater vehicle.

 

The injured have been admitted to the nearest hospital. Five critically injured persons were referred to a hospital in Lucknow.

Road accidents are common in India, where roads are often of poor quality and vehicles are usually overloaded with passengers.

Transport officials attribute a large number of accidents in India to reckless driving and untrained drivers.
