Expressing delight over the Election Commission's decision to announce the dates for Delhi Assembly polls, the voters on Monday said that electricity and water supply would be the main issues during the elections.

Yogesh Sharma, a resident of the city, said that voters will cast their votes keeping in mind their fundamental demands like water supply and power

"The voters these days are aware. Earlier, the contest used to be between two parties, now there are three. Voters will cast votes keeping in mind their fundamental demands like water supply, power. Who knows it could be a hung assembly even this time," Sharma said.

Another resident of the city, Brijmohan Gupta, hoped that the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AP) gets majority this time.

"There will be clear majority this time. AAP will form the government. I am going to support AAP," Gupta said.

Meanwhile, Nitin Mehta, another resident here, said that blocked sewer lines will also be a major issue along with power and water supply.

"This time the issues will be of blocked sewers and gutters along with power and water supply. I think AAP will get clear majority this time," Mehta said.

The elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held in a single phase on February 7. The counting of votes will take place on February 10.

Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath, who announced the poll schedule at a press conference earlier this evening, said the notification in this regard will be issued on Wednesday and January 21 will be the last date for filing of nominations. The scrutiny will take place on the January 22nd and candidates can withdraw their names by January 24.

Sampath said the model code of conduct has come into force with immediate effect.

Delhi has been under President's rule since February after AAP government stepped down after 49 days in power.
