Elton John has urged US Congress to strengthen the fight against AIDS and support other organizations to eradicate the disease from the roots.

The English singer was invited to speak at a Senate hearing on the President's Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR) for which he said that AIDS is spreading its web all over the world and if necessary steps will not be taken then the drug resistance will surface, transmission rates will rise and the disease will once again become a ruthless pandemic with disastrous and far-reaching consequences, the BBC reported.

The 68-year-old musician explained that Congress is the most powerful legislative body in the world and that's why it has the power to end virus as even his biggest fear was the stigma that people carries within themselves about the disease.

John also insisted that it was necessary to make people feel unashamed because they may have a sexual orientation that the society doesn't approve and the person gets caught by the virus.
