Embarking on trekking trails, Kashmiri school children took a tour of their city to explore it in depth as a part of an awareness campaign.
Trekking in Srinagar, on Monday was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Skiing and Mountaineering Association (JKSMA) and the Tourism Department in a bid to make the children aware about keeping their surroundings clean besides having a healthy lifestyle.
Children trekked up the Shankaracharya Hill, which rises above the world renowned Dal Lake located in the heart of the city. The hill, with the height of 1,000 feet, is the highest point to view the entire city of Srinagar.
Organizers said such campaigns not only help children develop good habits, but also make them love their city.
"The unique thing about this expedition is that while trekking, we have kept in mind about the cleanliness of the trekking trails which these children will experience," said Rouf Tramboo, Organiser of the event.
He also added that adventure sports like skiing and trekking need to be introduced to children in order to boost their confidence.
