Three more people died within the past 24 hours at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) near Siliguri in West Bengal (WB) due to the encephalitis syndrome.
The total toll of the disease has also risen up to 79 within this month.
Out of the three deaths, two were reportedly due to Japanese encephalitis. Though, the medical authorities have said that the situation is under control and the number of deaths has decreased, 36 patients were admitted in the past few days.
Criticising the West Bengal government, BJP leader S S Ahluwalia said, "It is a matter of serious concern. We must find the reasons for such an epidemic. About 203 people have died. Such has huge number of casualties has not taken place in past. Preventive measures were not taken. Victims should get compensation. It is the fault of the government."
State health minister Chandrima Bhattacharya paid a visit to the patients at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital yesterday.
