Encounter with Maoists in Chhattisgarh leaves one policeman dead

An encounter between security personnel and Maoists in Chhattisgarh left one policeman dead and four others injured.

The incident happened in Narayanpur district of the state when joint team of police and Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) were out on an operation after receiving information about the movement of Maoists in the area.

"A joint party of police was on an operation in Narayanpur after receiving information about the movement of Maoists. Our parties were active on different locations as it was a sync operation. Police force was at one location, and district and CAF force at another. While returning, an encounter took place with Maoists in which both sides resorted to heavy firing. Our personnel got shot. One passed away while on the way to the hospital and other four got injured. One has been shifted to Raipur and all are out of danger," said Additional Director-General of Police (anti-Naxal operations), R.K. Vij, in Raipur.

 

The police are yet to investigate which Maoist group was behind the attack.
