England bid farewell to the 2015 World Cup and to Sydney with a farcical win over Afghanistan on Friday under overcast conditions.
Replying to Afghanistan's 111 for the loss of seven wickets, England scored 101 for the loss of one wicket in 18.1 overs to register a nine-wicket win over the former.
Friday's win notwithstanding, this can be described as potentially England's worst World Cup performance, as they have never before won fewer than two games.
England won the toss and elected to field first.
Afghanistan scored its 111 runs in 36.2 overs.Shafiqullah top scored for his side with 30 and skipper Mohammad Nabi scored 16. For England, Chris Jordan and Ravi Bopara took two wickets each, while James Anderson, Stuart Broad and James Tredwell took a wicket each.
Replying to Afghanistan's total in a match that was reduced to 25 overs because of rain, England scored 101 for the loss of opener Alex Hales wicket (37). Ian Bell top scored for England with an unbeaten 52. Hamid Hassan claimed the wicket of Hales.
The outcome of the match was decided by the Duckworth Lewis Method.
