England have been dealt with another injury scare before the Ashes after Joe Root was struck on his hand while batting in their tour match.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Root was on 41 when NSW left-armer Josh Lalor managed to jag one back to the England No.6, hitting him on his right hand with the second new ball.

Play was stopped for several minutes while Root received treatment from England's medical staff, the report said.

Root was in noticeable discomfort as he had his hand examined and he then took a tablet and appeared to have his little finger bandaged before playing on, the report added.

England already have wicketkeeper Matt Prior in doubt for the first Test with a calf injury while Kevin Pietersen had a cortisone injection on his troublesome knee on Sunday, the report further said.
