England national football team's captain Steven Gerrard has dismissed claims that there is 'no chance' of his country winning the 2014 World Cup, saying that even if they are not the favourites, it does not mean the they cannot win the tournament.
According to Sport24, Gerrard's statement came on the heels of FA chairman Greg Dyke's claim that nobody expects England to win the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and that England's hopes of winning in Brazil are a 'doomed mission' even if they do qualify from Group H.
However, England boss Roy Hodgson made it clear he did not want to be drawn into a lengthy debate about Dyke's views, and the Liverpool midfielder agreed with him, although he insisted that even though England are not the favourites, it does not mean that they cannot win the World Cup.
However, Gerrard admitted that their priority is to win all the qualifiers to get to the World Cup, and quipped that he may don the manager's cap after witnessing the Dyke controversy.
