Eradicating IS war machine not possible without induction of ground troops: Tony Blair

The former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Tony Blair has said that the induction of ground troops is necessary to eradicate Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria.

Britain should join the wide international coalition of countries in fight against the Islamic State militants and deploy ground troops including special forces, said Blair.

He warned that airstrikes alone would not be sufficient to fight the militants in the Middle East.

Blair's statement came as Britain is yet to confirm whether it would join the United States and France in launching airstrikes in Iraq to combat the IS militants.

According to the Guardian, David Cameron would attend a conference of the United Nations Security Council in New York that would be headed by the U.S. President Barack Obama.
