The European Parliament has urged Pakistan to overhaul its blasphemy laws with a perspective to repeal them since they are increasingly being used to target Christians and other minorities in the country.
According to Dawn News, the EU particularly pointed out the case of a Pakistani Christian Asia Bibi who was sentenced to death four years ago for making blasphemous statements during an argument with a woman over a bowl of water.
The EU said that the laws are increasingly being used to target minorities including Christians and Ahmadis in Pakistan.
It also urged Pakistan to abolish death penalty for blasphemy or apostasy.
