European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley has backed former golfing world number one Rory McIlroy to bounce back from his current troubles and return to his best 'before too long'.

The Northern Irish ace had endured a turbulent year both on the course and off it, where his termination of a contract with his former management company was confirmed recently.

According to the Guardian, McGinley's support of his countryman has given rise to the belief that McIlroy will be a part of the Ryder Cup captain's 12-men team at Gleneagles in a year's time, even though McGinley has asserted that no player is guaranteed selection.

However, the captain said that he is nonchalant about McIlroy's career trough being a deep one, saying that there has not been a player in the history of the game who has not gone through peaks and troughs, adding that there is no doubt that McIlroy will come back up in the rankings again.

Stating that McIlroy might be facing his current downward spiral as he had a continuous vertical upwards trajectory for some time before that, McGinley also said that even legends like Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Tom Watson all had such dips in their careers, adding that golf is not a constant vertical climb.

According to McGinley, McIlroy has a good drive and is a good player, adding that he would be practising hard to bounce back instead of just sitting back on his laurels.
