Eva Longoria was presented with an award at the Women of Distinction Awards Gala in Washington D.C. on Friday night for her work as a women's rights activist.

Speaking before the event, Dara Richardson-Heron, the CEO of Young Women's Christian Association, said in a statement that at a time when women are growing as a powerful force in American culture and politics, they were delighted to honour Longoria for her activism, the Mirror reported.

Richardson-Heron especially praised the actress for her efforts to encourage all women to exercise their right to vote.

After hearing the news of her honour, the former 'Desperate Housewives' star said in a statement that she was truly honoured to receive the award, as she has been a longtime admirer of the programs the YWCA offers to empower women of all backgrounds.

The actress said that she is looking forward to visiting Washington and celebrating the accomplishments of the many young leaders at the YWCA for the work that they are doing across the country.
