Everton winless in six PL games post goalless draw against West Brom

Everton continued their winless streak as they were held to a goalless draw by West Bromwich Albion and now have gone six games without victory in the Premier League.

Everton were awarded a spot-kick after Joleon Lescott handled the ball. However, Belgian winger Kevin Mirallas took the penalty instead of regular taker Leighton Baines and missed the chance to score for Everton as the ball struck the post.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez then withdrew Mirallas at halftime.

West Brom had few chances at Goodison Park but hung on and remain unbeaten since Tony Pulis took over as head coach, the BBC reported.

Everton were in debate for a Champions League place at this stage last season, but following this result they look more likely to be involved in a relegation battle in the remainder of this campaign.

Everton are currently 17 points adrift off fourth placed Manchester United in the Premier League table and only four points above the relegation zone.

Martinez had conceded before the game that Everton must show that they can satisfy the ambitions of Belgium international Mirallas before the winger commits to a new contract.

However, it was Mirallas' penalty miss which proved costly for Everton after he elected to take the spot-kick rather than Baines, even though the left-back boasts a conversion rate of 15 out of 16 kicks taken.

West Brom saw out the remainder of the game to clinch a deserved point that lifted them above Aston Villa on goal difference and into 14th spot with 22 points.

West Brom head coach Tony Pulis said that there are lots of things that they have to improve on and obviously they have to do it quickly because they need the points to stay up.
