Abdul Rahim, a 30-year-old ex-army captain from Afghanistan, who lost both his hands in a demining operation in Kandahar three years ago, has become the recipient of a twin-hand transplant.

The Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in Kochi undertook the operation, which is reportedly the second ever case of a twin-hand transplant in the country.
