Former army chief General (Retired) V.K Singh officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the party headquarters on Saturday.

"I am confident that all of us ex-servicemen who have joined BJP today, will make the party stronger," said Singh.

"If the people want to do something about the country, they need to work with nationalist powers. That is the reason why I have joined a party, as it will take decisions in the national interest," he said.

Earlier in the day, Singh had reached India Gate before leaving for the BJP headquarters to formally join the right-wing political entity along with a number of former armed services personnel, and had said that his decision to join the BJP was the requirement of the day.

It is the requirement of the day and a national alternative. At the moment, I think all people who want good and stable governance that will propel India towards more development, may be looking forward to the BJP," said Singh.

"A very large number of officers are going to join the BJP. Some of who will be joining now and some later. It is a movement that has begun," he said.
