Pakistani girl shot by the Taliban for going to school, Malala Yousafzai, will address the United Nations in New York on the day of her 16th birthday on Friday,
The Malala Day event has been organized by Gordon Brown, former British Prime Minister and now U.N. Special Envoy for Global Education.
According to CBS News, in an interview Brown said that the frail young girl who was seriously injured has become such a powerful symbol not just for the girls' right to education, but for the demand that we do something about it immediately.
He added that girls' right to education in particular is a human right that should be observed in all circumstances.
According to the report, Malala will also present a petition of more than three million signatures to the Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, demanding education for all by 2015, which is one of the United Nations' Millennium Goals.
The Secretary General's spokesman, Martin Nesirky said that Malala is a global symbol for the rights of girls and indeed all young people to an education, the report added.
