Former tennis star Juan Carlos Ferrero is set to act as Sergio Garcia's caddie as the Spanish golf ace has opted to use the 2003 French Open star rather than his girlfriend to carry his clubs when he defends his Thailand Golf Championship title next month.
Garcia enjoyed a four-shot win at last year's tournament with his girlfriend, former US college player Katharina Boehm, carrying his clubs at Amata Spring near Bangkok. But he said that Boehm was happy to hand over the bag to Ferrero, his close friend and fellow Spaniard who once topped the tennis rankings.
Garcia said in a statement that he has played golf with Ferrero many times but the Spaniard never caddied for him before. He added that they just talked about it and Ferrero mentioned about it and they decided to do it, Sport24 reported.
Garcia also revealed that Ferrero is excited about it, claiming that Boehm is fine and happy to step aside and support from the sidelines.
The Spanish golf ace admitted that it always helps to have a friend on ones bag, adding that it is good fun to be able to enjoy golf and have a good time with a good close friend.
Ferrero would add extra star power to the December 11-14 event, which also features Bubba Watson, Martin Kaymer, Ernie Els, Lee Westwood and Victor Dubuisson, the report added.
