Former News of the World news editor Ian Edmondson has been imprisoned for a period of eight months over phone hacking plot charges.

According to the BBC, Edmondson is the eighth person to be convicted from the now-closed Sunday tabloid newspaper.

The former new editor admitted his part in the plot to hack phones last month.

Edmondson had become depressed and lost him home and was now dependent on alcohol, the Old Bailey heard.

Sports stars, royalty, politicians and celebrities were among those hacked.

Justice Saunders said that Edmondson was dismissed from his job at the News of the World and that he had lost his reputation as a journalist. Edmonson had only himself to blame, added Justice Saunders.
