Former Pakistan Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has submitted an unconditional apology before the Supreme Court against the contempt of court charges framed against him in the Rental Power Projects (RPPs) case.
The apex court had issued notice of contempt to Ashraf for writing the letter with a request to transfer the investigation into the Rs 22 billion RPP scam from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to a commission by appointing Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Dr Shoaib Suddle as its head, reports the Daily Times.
Ashraf's counsel Wasim Sajjad said that the former premier has also sought permission from the court to withdraw the letter he had written to the chief justice in the first week of March.
Justifying reasons for writing the letter, Ashraf had recalled that both the press and the public had expressed mistrust on the NAB investigations expressing apprehensions that the prime minister would allegedly influence the investigations - allegations that may affect the prime minister when he would go to his electorate in the upcoming general elections. Therefore it was necessary to transfer the investigations from the NAB to one-man commission under Dr Suddle, the letter had stated.
