The retired U.S. Navy SEAL Rob O'Neill who claims to have shot and killed Osama bin Laden almost single-handedly during the Abbottabad operation, said that he expected to die in the raid or spend the rest of his life in Pakistani prison.

According to ABC News, O'Neill expected the raid to be a one-way mission with a harsh outcome for himself and his fellow members of SEAL team.

He said in an interview that he thought he was going to die when Bin Laden and the house blow up.

O'Neill has been criticized for breaking the code of silence surrounding the mission. However, he says that he decided to tell his story because he knew that his name would be leaked soon.

O'Neill and another U.S. SEAL Matt Bissonnette have been involved in a public spat over who killed Bin Laden in 2011.
