The exit polls are predicting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will emerge as the single largest party with 34 seats, one shy of the halfway mark and the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party getting 17 seats each.

It is expected that doctor-turned-politician Harsh Vardhan will be the next chief minister of the state.

Income tax commissioner-turned politician Arvind Kejriwal could well pull the rug from under Congress Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's feet, television reports have said.

Delhi registered its highest-ever voter turnout of 65.86 per cent when it polled on December 4. Polling was extended by four and a half hours in the capital to ensure that thousands of people lined up at polling booths exercised their franchise.

The Delhi result is expected to indicate the mood of the urban electorate ahead of the general elections due by May.
