The Department of Defence and Strategic Studies is holding a national seminar with the theme "Challenges to India's Peace and Security from its Neighbours" on October 8 and 9.
The seminar was inaugurated by former foreign secretary Lalit Mansingh.
A large number of academicians addressed the seminar. Security-related think tanks like the Centre for Air Power Studies and Defenceinfo were represented.
Issues pertaining to neighbouring countries came up for discussion.
In his inaugural address, Mansingh invoked the philosophy of Kautilya when relating India's ties and interactions with its neighbours.
The implications for India with regard to instability in Pakistan and the rising military and economic power of China were articulated in detail.
An overwhelming perception was that conflict in the region is not in India's interest.
The seminar was in concert with the policy of "Act East" being articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently.
