Experts on Tuesday urged both India and China to define the Line of Actual Control in wake of the recent incursions on the boundary between the two countries.

Srikanth Kondapalli, a professor of Chinese studies Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), said that the governments of both the countries need to clearly define the LAC.

"The Line of Actual Control has not been defined. The current efforts by the government of India and government of China and the leaders and officials are to first clarify the line of actual control and then take steps to initiate the process of delimiting and demarcating," said Kondapalli.

M.M. Khajuriya, former DGP of Jammu and Kashmir, on his part said that China was purposely trying to keep the border issue alive by not resolving it.

"China wants this issue which has not yet been resolved to remain alive and it is unlikely that it would be resolved soon. They also want to divert the attention of India from Pakistan to China," said Khajuriya.

With reports of frequent incursion of Chinese troops into Indian territory, officials of India and China met today in New Delhi to discuss defence cooperation.

The two day talks, called the 'Working Mechanism for consultation and coordination on India-China border affairs,' have foreign and military officials on both sides.

The meeting focuses on maintaining peace and tranquility on the border and ensuring better coordination and communication.

It will also review existing mechanisms to ensure that they work properly.
