Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney believes lifting this year's FA Cup title can start 'something special' for his side who are still struggling to make a top-four Premier League finish.

Van Gaal's side are currently fifth in the Premier League standings and are trailing by 17 points from surprise leaders Leicester City.

Rooney, who was a part of Manchester United when they suffered defeats in the FA Cup final in the past against Chelsea and Arsenal, said it was a great chance for his side to bring an end to their long trophy drought.

Besides winning the Community Shield, United have not added any trophy in their shelf since Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013.

"I think it's a great opportunity for us. There are a lot of young and new players in the dressing room for us so it could be a big day for us in the final and the start of something special for us, I hope," Rooney was quoted as saying by goal.com.

He also called on his side to come out with a strong performance in the final as they are going to play against a tough side.

United will play against Crystal Palace in the finals on May 21.
