'Fake encounters motivate terrorism in our society': Rajiv Pratap Rudy

Expressing disgust over the Ishrat Jahan killing, general secretary of the (BJP) Rajiv Pratap Rudy said fake encounters motivate terrorism in our society.

Rajiv Pratap Rudy said there should be law against fake encounters "These things motivate terrorism and weaken the powers within the country. CBI filed the chargesheet. CBI today is accusing the police of a particular state. This could weaken the powers of the paramilitary forces," said Rudy.

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has held that Ishrat Jahan was killed in a fake encounter in 2004 and chargesheeted seven police officers in the case, saying it was a joint operation between Gujarat police and the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau.

Those against whom the chargesheet was filed for murder and criminal conspiracy include absconding Additional DGP P. P. Pandey and suspended DIG D. G. Vanzara.

"The encounter was a joint operation between Gujarat police and Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) of the state," CBI said in the charge sheet on Wednesday, adding, "the encounter was fake".

The CBI told the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate H. S. Khutwad that their investigation has established offences against all seven police officers chargesheeted in the case.
