"Two cops of Gohana police station, assistant sub-inspectors Subhash and Ashok demanded money from us," he added.
"The police demanded five thousand rupees from us, and when we were ready to give them that amount, they demanded ten thousand rupees. Yesterday, I went to police station to give him (Govinda) food. The police officials told me that my son had run away from the police station and the next day, we found his dead body, "said Govinda's mother.
Govinda's body was found hanging near his house in Gohana's Govindpura area on Thursday. The family claimed that he was charged with stealing a pigeon and then was brutally beaten up during police custody.
The relatives have reportedly placed his body on the road to mark protest, demanding action against the culprits and Rs 10 lakh compensation. Local residents blocked a road and the local railway track for more than three hours, disrupting the rail and road transport services in the area.
