Noted writer and senior Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) leader Mridula Sinha, after taking oath as the Governor of Goa, said that she will work to solve the problems of the society and family. She also added that women and the poor will always remain her priority.

"I have always been doing something for women, preservation of the family and the poor people and will continue to do so with the cooperation of Goa Chief Minister because I think that the problems of the family, and the society should be solved first, although I know that Goa is not a problematic state," said Sinha.

Expressing happiness over the occasion, Union Minister of State for Tourism and Culture Shripad Naik said, "I am happy that we got a full time governor for Goa. She has done a lot for the society; she is a writer and understands the condition of society. The Central Government has given us a good Governor and I thank them for this."

Earlier this month, following the completion of the tenure of Margaret Alva, who had been serving as the Governor of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Goa, President Pranab Mukherjee had temporarily assigned Gujarat Governor Om Prakash Kohli with the duties of the Governor of Goa in addition to his own duties.

Mridula Sinha is the former president of BJP Mahila Morcha and had actively participated in 'Samagra Kranti' led by Jai Prakash Narayan. She has written more than 46 books in various disciplines and has also written a biography on late Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia.

She also writes regular columns in various national and regional Hindi newspapers, magazines and periodicals.
