'Game of Thrones' author George R.R. Martin has told his fans to be prepared for a 'bittersweet ending' of his successful book series, 'A Song of Ice and Fire.'

Talking at Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism, the author said that everyone yearned for a happy ending in a sense, adding that he was not going to tell people how 'Game of Thrones' was going to end, but "I always say to expect something bittersweet in the end," Us Magazine reports.

The show is HBO's adaptation of Martin's successful fantasy novels, which debuted in April 2011.

The 67-year-old novelist has killed many lead characters such as Ned Stark, Robb Stark, Catelyn Stark, Joffrey Baratheon, Tywin Lannister and many more.

The final two books of the seven-novel series are not yet been released.
