'Go Ko' was the slogan to be seen and heard everywhere as teenaged South Korea-born New Zealand golf prodigy Lydia Ko beat Australian amateur Hannah Green by four shots to reclaim her New Zealand Open title at a packed Christchurch's Clearwater golf club on Sunday.
A strong group of middle-aged women rode every Ko shot, celebrating loudly whenever the 17-year-old landed a birdie putt, while small children sat perched high on their fathers' shoulders trying to get a glimpse of the amazing golf star.
'Go Ko' T-shirt stockists did a roaring trade, as a 6,417-strong crowd attended the final round, with about 20,000 through the gates over the three days, Stuff.co.nz reported.
Prime Minister John Key's arrival at the 12th hole, proved a perfect omen for Ko, who made birdie.
Golf fans also flocked to the venue wearing black shirts with 'Go Lydia' emblazoned on the back in white paint, the report added.
