Father of missing flight QZ8501's pilot last saw him at funeral of second son

The father of the pilot of missing AirAsia flight QZ8501 has said that he last saw his son a week back at the funeral of another of his sons who died due to diabetes.

According to the BBC, Suwarto, the father of Captain Iriyanto, seemed to accept the possibility that Iriyanto may not come back alive.

A family friend of the pilot described Iriyanto as a "very professional and very talented" person.

Suwarto said that it was in the hands of fate if his son would come back alive or not.

The daughter of the pilot wrote under a picture of Iriyanto wishing he would return soon and a nephew also said in a statement that his uncle was a caring man.

 

AirAsia plane QZ8501, flying from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore with 162 people on board, lost contact with air traffic control on Sunday.
