The federal alliance or the Sanghiya Gathabandhan formed by the Madhesis and Janajati forces, in order to press the government to address their demands, will on Sunday continue their Kathmandu-centric protests and is scheduled to gherao the Singha Durbar.

The federal alliance had yesterday launched their so called 'intensified' capital centric protests.

Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal, General secretary, Rajendra Shrestha said that the demonstration was aimed at pressuring government to find solution of the Tarai crisis through amendment in the constitution, reports the Kathmandu Post.

The move comes days after agitating forces' declined government's offer to resume talks.

The Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli-led government had on Monday written to the agitating parties, inviting them to the negotiating table.

The agitating parties demand redrawing provincial boundaries and amending some provisions of the constitution.

No talks have been held between the two parties since February 18, the day the government formed a political mechanism to address the agitating parties concerns.

The federal alliance comprises 27 political parties, including seven Madhesi forces, which have formed the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM).

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said it would be monitoring the protests.
